Launching
Generations Hawaii has been as exciting for me as the first year of
the Kini Popo Show back in 1953 when TV was in its infancy. Well,
maybe not quite as exciting because we have yet to add a chimpanzee
to the talented corps of professionals who are producing this magazine.
But if you remember Peaches the chimp from those days, you’ll
probably agree that she wouldn’t fit the concept of “The
Good Life After 50” anyway.
We’re happy to report Generations Hawaii is growing! Circulation is up to 20,000. We’re now available at most Starbucks locations on Oahu (39 and counting!), copies are flying off our 10 street racks in Honolulu and more subscribers are enjoying the convenience of home delivery.
Our staff is also growing. Reeve Weiner, whose extensive experience includes publishing magazines for Kahala Mall and Pearlridge Center, has filled the new position of associate publisher. We’re also pleased to welcome Steven Rogers as an advertising account executive. He has over 20 years of printing, sales and sales management experience.
In the coming year, Editor Cheryl Tsutsumi will continue to assemble a rich presentation of news and features designed to improve your quality of life. And you, dear reader, can help guide the magazine’s direction by responding to the survey inserted in this issue.

We were blessed from the beginning with nearly two dozen advertisers who shared our vision and recognized the value of promoting their products and services on our pages. Time
flies! Generations Hawaii is one year old!
It seems like just yesterday that our inaugural issue, featuring a beaming Tom Moffatt on the cover, was rolling off our presses. Since then, Lynne Waihee, Perry and Price, Sam Choy, Emme Tomimbang and Eddie Sherman have graced our covers, and in this, our first-anniversary issue, we’re pleased to introduce you to entertainer-turned-philanthropist Carole Kai (see the story beginning on page 16).
Marking such a milestone is good reason for reflection; we’d like your feedback about Generations Hawaii. What departments and columns do you find most interesting? Is there a person, issue or topic you’d like us to cover? Do you have a tip or news item that would benefit others? We’d love to hear from you!

Expect Generations Hawaii to continually improve. For example, starting
with this issue, Tech Talk replaces Bits & Bytes. The column’s
new name reflects our expanded coverage of technology; instead of
focusing on computers, we’ll be examining a wide range of products.

As space permits, we’d like to run features on food, fashion and entertainment. And, of course, we’re looking forward to receiving input from you. Your opinions matter.
