For the most current information on eye care, look no further than The Hawaiian Eye Show, hosted by Christopher Tortora, M.D. at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings on KHVH Radio, 830 AM. Dr. Tortora is a board-certified ophthalmologist, cataract and glaucoma expert, and medical director of the Hawaiian Eye Center in Wahiawa.
Dr. John Corboy launched the one-hour show in the early 1980s; Dr. Tortora has served as its host for the past 15 years. During the first half of the program, he discusses the latest eye care news and issues, sometimes with special guests. During the second half, listeners can call in and talk to Dr. Tortora on the air about vision problems they or their loved ones may have.
“The Hawaiian Eye Show is a great way for our audience to receive news on current eye care concerns and the latest advances in eye care,” says Dr. Tortora. “Over the past 15 years, I’ve discovered many people have questions about eye care, and the show also provides a regular forum for them to address these and to receive the answers they need.” To learn more about the show and the importance of maintaining good eye health, call the Hawaiian Eye Center at 621-8448.
Alison
Levine, who overcame a life-threatening heart condition to become
a Wall Street whiz and an acclaimed mountaineer, will deliver the
keynote address at HerStory, the Junior League of Honolulu’s
women’s conference set for March 2 at the Hawaii Convention
Center. Running from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the event also will
feature workshops on career, relationships and lifestyle, and a
marketplace of products and services geared especially for women.
Cost is $98 for the full day and $68 for lunch only ($15 will be
added to both fees if registration occurs after February 20).
As a teenager, Levine’s health was so unstable that she was not even allowed to do basic things such as drive a car or walk up stairs. But 13 years after her initial diagnosis she had surgery that changed her life. Climbing stairs soon gave way to climbing mountains (in 2002, she was invited to serve as the team captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition)—and climbing up the corporate ladder. Her 18-year career encompasses work in healthcare, technology and finance, and her accomplishments both in nature and the business world have been chronicled by numerous media outlets, including The Today Show, CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS, Oprah Magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated Woman and Outside. Call 946-6466 to reserve your space at HerStory.
