The busy life of Cha Thompson

She started dancing at age 6 and continued performing through the birth of her last child at age 32. Now, she co-manages Tihati, an entertainment empire that presents Polynesian dance revues at major hotels throughout the islands and across the Pacific. But, that’s not all she does. She lends her organizational skills and personality to major charities. However, she much prefers the company of her 11 grandchildren.

New editor, same commitment

I am pleased and proud to take over as editor of Generations Hawaii and I’m grateful for the trust Kini gave me with this opportunity.

Cheryl Tsutsumi set a high standard during her year-long tenure and left a strong legacy. I want to build on that using the feedback you gave us in the recent reader survey. You told us what’s important to you and we hope to institute some of these ideas as regular features in future issues.

To introduce myself: I graduated from UCLA where I worked four years on the campus newspaper, the Daily Bruin. It’s what I really majored in, although my degree is in American history. I spent 30+ years writing and editing on publications in Southern California, Oregon and Northern California before moving to Hawai‘i three years ago. I have won numerous writing and editing awards from professional organizations in two states and nationally.

My husband and I were planning to retire to Hawai‘i “some day,” so when he got a job opportunity here, it was an easy choice. I am old enough for this assignment and I believe in living the good life after 50. It’s what we have been trying to do since moving here!

I’m looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about senior resources in Hawai‘i.

If you have story ideas or suggestions for the magazine, please let me know by e-mailing dianne@tradepublishing.com. We want Generations Hawaii to be reader-friendly with lots of information to help you live the good life after 50.

Aloha,
Dianne Glei

Mahalo for your support of the magazine.

Dear Editor:

I just finished reading Generations Hawaii April/May issue. ... It’s one of the few publications I actually read cover to cover. I find the articles and features so nicely done.

Kathy Titchen’s piece on the practical hardships of loss of a loved one was so fresh and real. Kaui’s (Philpotts Life After 50) piece on aging was hilarious. Lisa Josephsohn’s piece on Jim Nabors was wonderful, too.

I commend (former editor) Cheryl (Tsutsumi). You really created an attractive, niche publication where there was once a huge void in this market. I hope they can continue it.
