Presto! e-mail for seniors without a computer

Technology has made our lives easier in lots of ways. Those who are tech savvy consider it a necessity, but for many seniors, computers and cell phones are wonders they cannot understand or easily use.

For seniors who are computer impaired and don’t have one at home, there’s a new tandem that will allow them to get unlimited e-mail from family and friends and receive photos. The system is set up to accept only e-mails from approved senders, so there’s no spam or junk mail.

It requires purchase of the HP Printer Mailbox ($149.99) and a subscription to Presto which uses the phone line to download e-mails and photos.

Signing up for Presto lets seniors choose from monthly ($9.99 per month) or annual ($99 a year) service plans with toll-free phone support. They can even choose a personalized Presto e-mail account such as mimi@presto.com. And, subscribers can select how many times a day they want to receive e-mails (up to five), thus controlling when the phone line is busy.

Seniors can choose the print size for the messages received in the HP Printer Mailbox which prints e-mails and photo attachments sent from almost any e-mail program such as Outlook or Yahoo. Installation is simple — just plug into power source and a standard phone line.

This is the answer to sending photos and messages to senior ‘ohana without a computer. It lets them stay connected to family and friends and receive those precious pictures of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
